The ClearCash Prepaid MasterCard®
The ClearCash Card is a prepaid MasterCard card which does not offer credit but can still be used at over 30m locations worldwide wherever you see the MasterCard Acceptance Mark. The Card is issued to you by Newcastle Building Society.
Your prepaid card can be loaded directly from your employer or any bank transfer. Any extra cash you may have can be used to top up at a PayPoint location or any Post Office branch. This allows you to use it knowing you have the money in hand.
As you can only spend what you have loaded and we don't offer credit, you will never incur interest charges. Your card comes with Chip and PIN for your additional security.

Your ClearCash card can be used to:
- Withdraw money from over 1.5m cash machines worldwide
- Buy groceries, petrol etc in most shops
- Top up your mobile phone from cash machines
- Shop on the internet including eBay
- Make flight and hotel reservations
- Pay bills

Checking your balance
To avoid any embarrassing situations at the checkout, please ensure you always have sufficient funds loaded on your card to complete any purchases.
You can check your balance online at any time by logging into your account.
To receive your card balance by SMS, you must first have registered your mobile phone with us in your online icount.
Once registered, please text: BALANCE XXXX to 80800.
(where xxxx is the last 4 digits of your card number)
Your card balance will then be returned to you by SMS. There is no charge from us to use this service (other than your normal network rate). Use of this free service will be monitored and will be withdrawn if abused.
